ZUBEROA (MONUMENTAL HERITAGE)

The Commandery of Saint-Jean de Berraute.

A road led from Maulon to Ostabat via Ordiarp and Pagolle. In Maul on, the commandeering of Saint John of Berraute was located at the foot of the borough, on the right bank of the Saison, in the center of the cemetery. I included a church, a hospital to welcome pilgrims and a farm. It belonged to the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem and depended on the Grand Priory of Toulouse (according to monastic language, the main house was called the Priory and those that depended on it were the parcels). San Juan de Berraute benefited from the tithes of several parishes: Maul on, Licharre, Larrebieu and Barcus. The first known commander is Pierre de Orneille (1284). Around 1320, the commanderies were restructured and Berraute was joined to that of Arceins, in the Medoc. Around 1650, San Juan de Berraute became a separate commendation and took the name of Saint-Blaise-des-Monts (du Bourg, 1883).
