In terms of documented evidence, the name Hondarribia already appears among the lands granted by the King of Navarre to the inhabitants of San Sebastián, in a document that Banús dates 1153-1157 and 1169-1194.

"Etiam terminum dono ad popullatores de Sancto Seuastiano, de Hundarribia usque ad Oriam, et de Arrenga usque ad Sanctus Martinum de Arano; scilicet quod ego habeo sub terminum illum et totum quod ibi est de rreyalengo."
Translation:
« I also grant the boundary to the inhabitants of San Sebastián, from Hondarribia to Oriam, and from Arrenga to Saint Martin of Arano; namely, that I hold under this boundary all that lies there under royal jurisdiction. »
