It is recorded that Henry IV visited the town at the end of April 1463 due to disputes with the King of Aragon, staying in the noble house of Venesa. According to Esteban de Garibay, Princes Philip and Joanna, upon their arrival in Spain, entered the same town on January 29, 1502. In 1506, Germana de Foix, the young bride of the elderly Ferdinand of Aragon, stayed in the town. In 1521, the passage of Saint John of God led to the erection of a sculptural group in his memory.
Francis I of France made a forced stay in 1526 before being exchanged. His captor, Charles V, lodged in the same house on the night of November 27, 1539, during his transit to Flanders. He inspected the town, its fortifications, towers, and walls, and at the of the Duke of Orleans pardoned a certain Berroto, who had been sentenced to death. The following day he continued by sea, landing in Biarritz.
Philip III also arrived in this town on November 7, 1615, with his daughter Anne for her handover, staying the following day. Princess Isabel of Bourbon, betrothed to the Prince of Asturias, arrived on the 9th of the same month and stayed for the entire day.
Philip IV lodged in the town’s palace on June 2, 1660, for the handover of Infanta Maria Theresa of Austria, who was married to the King of France by proxy in the main church. Philip V also visited the town on the afternoon of January 23, 1701, coming from Irún, but only dismounted at the church doors to pray, before returning to Irún.
The Emperor of Germany, Joseph II, visited Fuenterrabía on June 26, 1777, to inspect the breaches made by the French during the 1719 siege. Finally, Napoleon, Emperor of the French, with the Empress, visited the town on September 17, 1858, and the King of the Belgians on September 19, 1859.
