Gorosabel considers it indisputable that Fuenterrabía, in ancient times, had much greater importance than it does today. This is inferred from street names such as Platería, Obispo, Reina, Florencia, Ubilla, Gamboa, Tristán, Laborda, and others. For this reason, at the Cortes held in Madrid in January 1391 by King Henry III of Castile, Fuenterrabía was represented by Esteban de Aluda as its procurator, according to the register of those Cortes published by the Real Academia de la Historia.
