En 1808 contrae matrimonio con la novia que le designan sus padres, Engráce Pelento, y pasa a ejercer el mayorazgo de "Etchahunia". Matrimonio desgraciado que engendrará seis hijos y se perderá en disputas y malos tratos debidos a las discrepancias y a los celos masculinos.
