III - THE HOUSES.

Suletin rural architecture has clearly experienced Béarnas influences. The Suletina house, different from that of other regions of the country, is concentrated, stocky, with small openings to resist the elements and a harsher climate. Built with large stones of the same color as the neighboring rocks, sometimes with the edges of the nearby river, it is covered with a steep sloping roof of slate or beech or chestnut shingles. Sometimes, the side exposed to the sun is provided with a wooden gallery covered with a roof, in the extension of that of the house. The Suletina house is not a single volume. The buildings that serve to house the cattle and to store the crops are located square in relation to the residential house and form one of the sides of the block. Each one of the constructions has its roof, even when they are linked, as is frequent, with each other. In Maul on, a chromatic revolution can be seen lately (Bidart, 1994) due to the adoption of red, green and gray for the woodwork, pink, yellow or gray for the facades, all framed within a plan to improve the h bitat directed jointly by the Council of Architecture, Urban Planning and the Environment.
