ZUBEROA (MONUMENTAL HERITAGE)

Hispano-Moorish influences.

Influences of this type are evident in this building and bear witness to the exchanges France and Spain in the Middle Ages. They have been demonstrated by Elie Lamben (1941). They are noticeable, first of all, in the openwork skylights, with geometric decoration, which cover the windows instead of stained glass, then in the polylobed arch that we find in various parts of the monument. They are also revealed in the vaults of the apse and transept transept, as well as in the octagonal tower that crowns it pierced by lobed windows. The church of L'Hôpital-Saint-Blaise is therefore exceptional for the harmony of its architecture and for the testimony it bears on artistic exchanges Christians and Muslims in Spain and the Basque Country in France.
