La Real Compañía Guipuzcoana de Caracas (1995 version)

The new headquarters in Madrid (1751). The first measures taken were to suspend the commercial activity of the Caracas Company. For this reason, the company's operations were paralyzed 1749 and 1751. After this waiting period, the Company reopened its doors in 1751, but with new headquarters in Madrid. From then on, and as indicated, the Monarch's control over the company's management increased. Some changes were also introduced regarding prices; an annual meeting in Venezuela would set minimum prices for the Guipuzcoana Company to purchase colonial goods. In this way, the company was prevented from paying low prices for cocoa and tobacco, which caused discontent among its producers.
