Los Angeles 1932. A single athlete representing France competed for us in Los Angeles. It was Clement Duhour, a shot putter from Biarritz Olympique, who had achieved a remarkable mark for that era (15.59), but apparently failed to make it to the final. Duhour would later achieve fame in the field of film production, particularly as a result of his marriage to actress Bibianne Romance. And it was Los Angeles that saw an Argentinean of Basque origin win the marathon: Juan Carlos Zabala. With Basque sport absent from the highly controversial 1936 event in Berlin, at the height of Nazi fervour, and the 1940 and 1944 events cancelled due to the world war, there was a long hiatus until London, 16 years later.
