MENDIAGUE LARREGAIN, Jose

Writer born on April 27, 1845 in Aldudes (Baja Navarra). He died in Montevideo (Uruguay) on September 12, 1937.

On March 29, 1881, he married Margarita Gandolla in the Cathedral of San José (Uruguay). With her he had four children. At the age of 18, I emigrated to rich South America. There he lived in Argentina, Chila and Uruguay, settling permanently in the latter country where he lived until the end of his days.

He is the author of the poetic work Euskaldun guziak bat [All the Basques are one] (Euskal-Erria, 1902, XLVI, p. 387). In 1916 he published Zazpiak bat. Euskaldun kantuak [Seven one. Cantares vascos], a collection of Basque songs. Fr. Onaindia, Eskualdun bertsolari'ak, [Los versolaris vascos], Kantuz [Singing], Eskual-Herria gure Ama [Euskalerria our Mother] and Ezkondua eta donadua [The married and the single] have published this book. In 1992 Pierre Charriton compiled all his verses and poems and published them under the title "Jose Mendiague, haren bizia eta haren kantuak".
