The Company's first ships to leave Pasajes, in July 1730, were three: the San Joaquín , the San Ignacio , and the Santa Bárbara (aka Galera Guipuzcoana ). However, the Company soon added new vessels. Over the course of its life, it came to own almost 100 different vessels (although some had the same name), but not all at the same time. To obtain ships, it had its own shipyards in Pasajes, although it also had to resort to purchasing foreign units, given the limitations of its own production.
