Other mountains in Alava. The Vitoria plain is easy to enter from the Salvatierra (Agurain) side. It is the continuation of the great depression that crosses the Basque Country, parallel to the Pyrenees. From the "Verdun Canal" to the Pamplona basin. From Iruñerri to the Badaya and Arrato mountain ranges in Alava. The secondary mountains that close off this Alava plain to the west, the aforementioned Badaya and Arrato, close off this basin rich in crops, human element and ancient history. To the west of these mountains are the valleys of Zuya and Cuartango - the basin of the river Bayas - closed to the west and south by the mountains of Guibijo and Arkamo. The Gorbea, at the head of the Zuya, cradles the source of the Bayas with its pure springs and closes the valley to the north. The Sierra Salvada and the Altube mountains characterise the valleys of Ayala, Arrastaria and Urcabustaiz. To the southwest, in the region of Valdegobia, the mountains of Bóveda, with Peña Gobia (1,200 m.). In Bergüenda, the Arzena mountain range rises in Cueto to 1,345 m. In Marquínez it turns westwards and soon turns decidedly southwards as far as Lagrán. Its branches continue along the Faldo and Baroja mountains as far as Portilla de Bureba, always parallel to the Toloño mountain range, the latter and the border with Treviño. Other mountains, branches of those of Amescoa (N) and Lokiz (N), penetrate the Arana valley. The mountains of San Román de Campezo reach up to 1,200 m. in the Mirutegui.
