CAISSE D'ÉPARGNE MUNICIPALE ET MONTE DE PIEDAD DE BILBAO (1907-1989)

The society in Bilbao in 1907, which saw the birth of the Caja de Ahorros y Monte de Piedad Municipal, for which this institution was intended, was totally different from that of 1989, the last year of the Caja's life. In that year, an Extraordinary Assembly approved the merger with the Caja de Ahorros Vizcaina, the merger agreements, the Articles of Association, the new name of the institution, the line of action to be followed, the structure and management of the resulting savings bank. Thus began a process that was to conclude with the merger of this savings bank with the Caja Vizcaina on 16 February 1990. The two institutions would become a single institution called Bilbao Bizkaia Kutxa, thus bringing to an end their existence during most of the 20th century and preparing an institution capable of facing the challenges posed by a new era.
