Historical researcher and genealogy expert, with important works in this discipline on the entailed estates of the Count of Peñaflorida, the Ramery, the Aurrecoechea, the Veroiz, the Alcain, the Barony of Zurco and the Lordship of the Villas of El Molar and El Vellón in a Guipuzcoan entailed estate, among others. He was born in 1926.
He joined the San Telmo Museum in 1946 and was appointed director in 1980, after having held the post of secretary for twenty years, during Gonzalo Manso de Zúñiga's term of office. He is a full member of the Real Sociedad Bascongada de los Amigos del País and editor of its Boletín, to which he has been a regular contributor since 1963, when he began writing under the pseudonym of ‘Julián de Urmia’.
He has been secretary of publications of the ‘Julio de Urquijo’ Seminar of Basque Philology of the Provincial Council of Guipúzcoa and is the author of several works, among them:

He has also published biographical notices on figures such as Don Ramón Seone y Ferrer, Marquis of Seoane, author of the work Navegantes guipuzcoanos (Gipuzkoan Navigators) (San Sebastian, 1984), and Los hermanos Elhuyar (I Semana de Historia de la Real Sociedad Bascongada de los Amigos del País, San Sebastian, 1986).
He has written countless biographical texts in exhibition catalogues of painters such as Eugenio Arruti, Ignacio Echandi, Simón Arrieta, Ascensio Martiarena, Julián de Tellaeche, Ignacio Ugarte, Narciso Balenciaga, Daniel Vázquez Díaz, Elías Salaverría, Antonio Ortiz Echagüe, Ignacio Zuloaga, Eduardo Martínez Vázquez, Iñaki Moreno Ruiz de Eguino, Cristóbal Toral, José Beulas, Menchu Gal, Álvaro Delgado, Marina Besné, José Mensuro, Aurelia Martínez de la Hidalga, Manuel de Gracia, Pilar Pérez Ochoa, Amador Lanz and Carlos Añibarro. He has also documented the work of the sculptor Juan Bautista Beltrán and the list of Basque artists in Evocación histórica, presented at the Euskal Echea Exhibition, Madrid, 1982.
