Erauso, Katalina (1592-1650)

In 1645, Erauso found himself back in the Americas, this time in Veracruz de Indias (Mexico), where he had travelled aboard General Pedro de Ursua’s galleons. There he went by the name of Antonio de Erauso and made his living transporting goods on a mule train. The Third Account, printed in Mexico in 1653, states that ‘in the year 1650, whilst travelling along the new road with a cargo bound for Veracruz, he fell ill in Quitlaxtla with a fatal illness and died an exemplary death, to the great sorrow of all those present’. He was 58 or 65 years old at the time.
