She flees to Argentina across the Andes. After a harrowing journey across the Andes, she manages to reach Tucumán in Argentina, more dead than alive. She flees from there too, however, to avoid having to marry two young women—the daughter of an Indian widow and the niece of a canon—to whom she had promised marriage.
