(1371-1373). Navarre loses Rioja and Lava. On October 6, 1371, Charles II is forced to accept the mediation of the Pope in relation to the Basque territories recovered 1367-1368. On August 4, 1373, Cardinal Guido of Bologna announced the papal verdict that, as expected, settled the issue in favor of the strongest: Castile and its ally France. The Cortes of Navarre in 1373 ratified the sentence, obliging themselves to comply with it. The expedition of Prince Luis to Greece and Albania was set in this context.
