Charles II of Navarre the Bad

Peace with France. The king returns to Navarre, 1360-1361. Navarre was meanwhile governed by the king's brother, Prince Louis of Evreux. After peace was made with the French (October 1360), Charles returned to his kingdom on 2 November 1361. He had embarked in Cherbourg on the ship of a certain Esteban de Carranza. That year (22 July 1361) his first-born son, the future Charles III, was born in Mantes. Charles distributed alms among various convents in Pamplona - the preachers of Pamplona, Saint Augustine, Carmen, Merced - and the hospitals of that city. During his stay in Navarre, the Grandes Companias or "Tardevenidos", licensed by the kings who had employed them - the king of Navarre, the king of England - ravaged France (1361).
