Gayarre Garjón, Sebastián Julián

From Paris to Turin, to see the National Exhibition and to sing at the Teatro Reg o. Triumphs without interruption, with the presence of the kings and D. Amadeo de Saboya. Summer arrived and cholera made its appearance.

Gayarre turned to Roncal, his great love. There he planned works: the beautiful pediment, the new schools, his project for the new Navarrese railway that would cross the Roncal-Erronkari valley, pierce the Pyrenees through Belgoa-Kakueta, to exit at Zuberoa and connect with the French network. Another of his projects was the restoration of the Navarzato hermitage. He enjoyed making projects for his beloved valley. He used to say: "Say what you want about me, but don't say anything against my hoarse valley." He led a simple life, sowing his joy wherever he went. He had earned the veneration of all the inhabitants of the valley. Memory and veneration that still endures. One example is the homage paid to him in August 1982 by the seven towns, on the occasion of the VI Erronkari Ibaxaren Eguna. VI Day of the Roncal Valley. Gayarre gave up a great cult of friendship. He invited his old friends. He took the master blacksmith from Lumbier, the old Quilleri, to his house in Roncal.

On October 20, he writes from Barcelona. It announces its thirty performances at the Liceo, starting in mid-November. He started with La Africana , the first time he sang it at the Liceo. Total triumph, especially when reaching the romance Oh paradisso! His extensive repertoire allowed him a great variation, but the preferences of businessmen and the public forced him to the most famous works.

Around this time the earthquakes in Andalusia occurred, Gayarre offered his contest for charity functions. The results were magnificent. He said goodbye to Fausto . Accompanied on the piano, he sang Gounod's Ave Maria and then Gernikako Arbola . The delirious public led him to his house accompanied by torches and serenading him.

From Barcelona to Valencia, who received him with affection. Then he had to travel to Seville; it spends Holy Week and the Fair. In the cathedral he sang the Miserere of his teacher Eslava. In the San Fernando theater continued triumph. Gayarre had a great time, with his cousins Gregorio and Eugenio Garjón, his friends Enciso, Lago, Elorrio, the French novelist Delpit and a beautiful admirer, about whom no information is reported.
