Musician. Born in Sestao (Bizkaia) on January 27, 1933, he died on November 11, 1995.
He began his early music studies at the Sestao Municipal Academy, where he was a member of the Music Band. In March 1955, he joined the Bilbao Municipal Band and Orchestra (now the Symphony Orchestra) as a solo trumpet player. In 1962 and 1963, he continued his studies at the Vizcaya and San Sebastián Conservatories. In February 1966, he won a competitive examination for the position of Assistant Band Director of the Symphony Orchestra.
From that year on he began with the Choral Masses; thus, in October 1966 he was appointed Principal Conductor of the Orfe n Baracald s, which he left due to incompatibility with the Bilbao Choral Society.
In March 1968, the Pro-Arte Board of Trustees of Bilbao entrusted him with the preparation of the opera Zigor by Maestro Escudero (to be presented in a staged version) with which the Pro-Arte choir won the plaque of honor at the 5th Madrid Opera Festival (April 15 - June 14, 1968). In July 1968, he was called upon by the Bilbao Choir to perform all the concerts they had scheduled for the summer. In November 1968, the Landachueta Club appointed him as its conductor for its opera group, and together with the Baracald s Choir, he worked on staging zarzuelas. Music Professor at the Gaztelueta School (Las Arenas, Vizcaya).
In 1971, he moved to Siena, where he completed a course in Opera Conducting at the Chigiana Academy. From 1971 to 1981, he was Principal Conductor of the Bilbao Choral Society. In 1974 and 1975, he prepared the ABAO Choir for the Opera Festivals.
He has conducted countless lyrical presentations and concerts, including the premiere of Zigor and revivals of Mendi-Mendiyan , Mirentxu , El Caserio , Marina , Tosca , etc., at the Christmas Lyrical Festivals held in Bilbao, as well as Rigoleto , Simon Bocanegra and Nabucco at the ABAO Opera Festivals. Under his direction have performed artists of international standing such as Mirella Freni, Alfredo Kraus, Nicola Chiaurov, Mateo Manuguerra, Piero Capuccili, Nicanor Zabaleta, Joaquin Acharro, Felix Ayo, Raina Kabaivanska, Ghena Dimitrova, etc.
On several occasions he conducted the Euskadi Symphony Orchestra, achieving resounding success from both critics and the public.
