Marrodán, Mario Ángel

Poet. Born in Portugalete in 1932, died on July 6, 2005 in Bilbao.

He studied high school in Bilbao and graduated in Law from the University of Madrid.

His name and work are cited in various anthologies, both national and foreign, given the extent and quality of the same, having also been translated into French, Portuguese, Italian, English, German, Lithuanian, Greek, Finnish, Catalan, Asturian, Galician and Basque. He has published more than 150 books of poetry, essays, anthologies, aphorisms and art criticism, as well as more than five hundred collaborations in magazines.

Among his poetic works we will mention: Ansia en vida (1950), The soul and the senses (1959), The roots of the spirit (1961), Existence in time (1963), Chronicler of the present (1964), The wounds of a people (1965), Race of gods (1966), The sun of the future (1966), Learning in misery (1969), Our testament (1969), On the face of the heart (1970), Season without crisis (1970), The forces of the moment (1970), Guilarica de Vizcaya (1974), Rhymes (1975), Tribute to pain (1976), Onager: Light of the image (1976), epic period (1977), Lunatic soliloquies (1982), Dossier of a fifty (1990), Revolutionary Lambs (1998), Flaccid Fire (2004) and Cosmic Agora (2004). We also highlight the anthology: the Sword and Poetry (Poetic Anthology 1950-1975), published in 1989.

As for art criticism we highlight: The brushes of Vasconia , Canvases of Euzkadi , Basque Sculpture, Panorama of Basque Watercolors and Dictionary of Basque painters (5 volumes) with the appendix Handbook of new Basque artists.

He has received various awards, such as the "Villa de Bilbao" Poetry Prize (1970), finalist for the "Marina" Poetry Prize (1962), Honorable Mention for the "Amantes de Teruel" Prize (1972) and the "Ramón de Basterra" Prize (1974); the latter for his work Homenaje al dolor . He holds an Honorary Diploma from the Comit Lrico de la Rosa Blanca Martiana of Argentina, Croix du Chevalier de Le Merite Nationale Fran ais. He is a "Cittadano Academico di Ducato di Vittoforita", Academic Titular of the "Casa do Poeta Garibaldi" of Portugal, Honorary President of the Association "Cristina y sus poetas", Corresponding Academic of the "Academia di Pontzen" of Italy, and so on up to more than 200 titles, awards and distinctions.

He was a member of the Spanish Association of Art Critics and the Collegiate Association of Writers of Spain.
