The passage of the Grandes Companies, 1365-1366. The truce France and England left the Grandes Companies employed by the King of France redundant. In order to get rid of them, Charles V of France, son of John "The Good", channelled them towards the peninsula to help Trastamara. This meant an unexpected setback for Don Carlos, since he was forced either to face them or to betray the treaty with Don Pedro, the ink on which was still fresh. Once again he was forced to play the trick. After a brief encounter at Roncesvalles with the Navarrese guard, du Guesclin entered the kingdom and, in March 1366, he appeared in Tudela on his way to Castile. Pedro I fled, leaving the bastard Henry to take his throne.
