Politicians and Public Officials

ASTIZ ARANGUREN, Enrique

Republican personality born on 15 July 1904 in Cadreita (Navarre). He studied law and became a lawyer.

He was one of the shareholders of the Pamplona Republican newspaper Democracia, which appeared in March 1932. He was a member of the organising committee of Acción Republicana in Pamplona. He later joined Izquierda Republicana, although it seems that he did not hold leading positions in the party.

At the beginning of the tragic year 1936 he was legal secretary of Socorro Rojo Internacional and a friend of the communist Jesús Monzón Repáraz. When in June 1936 the departure from Navarre of the Semanario de Orientación Popular was announced, he appeared as a contributor to it.

He was shot by the rebels against the Republic on 8 August 1936 in Undiano. He was married to María Aicua Morón, a native of Caparroso.
