Arvizu Galarraga, Fernando

Navarrese lawyer born in Pamplona on 14 October 1950. Doctorate in Law from the University of Navarre (1975). 1978 and 1979 he was a lecturer in History of Law at the University of Santiago and the following year at the University of Oviedo. Recently created the University of León, he became a professor of the same discipline in 1980. In 1990 he obtained his doctorate in Law from the University of Toulouse.

From 1992 to 1995, he was Dean of the Faculty of Law in León. He is the author of studies on early medieval law, particularly in the kingdom of León. He has also carried out research on Hispano-French border disputes. He is a correspondent of the Royal Academy of History, the Academy of Legislation of Toulouse and the National Academy of History of Argentina. He is a member of the French Society for the History of Law and of the International Institute for the History of Indian Law.

1993 and 1999 he was a member of the Castilla y León Parliament for the Partido Popular; in 1999 he was elected Senator, having been (1999-2000) First Vice-President of the Foreign Affairs Committee.
