Antropología Física

If we talk about the nature of the type and the morphological, serological and osteological characters that correspond to it and assuming, of course, that the type exists - it has already been seen that certain French authors deny this - the question arises as to the origin of this people who, often, over the centuries, the aforementioned characteristics. Aranzadi believes that he finds in the Azilian skulls of Urtiaga some features that relate them to the Basques of today, despite the fact that in skull B1, attributed to the Magdalenian, chromañoid features can be seen. The kinship with the Palaeolithic race of the Dordogne is precisely what raises the possibility of a mutation that originated the base of the skull; in fact, and taking into account the influence of the base on the whole architecture of the skull, this mutation, fixed through inbreeding, and perhaps from the Mesolithic onwards, would give rise to the Basque type.

If we look impartially at the Basque type specimen formed by variability factors of the human species over hundreds of generations, we can observe the following: over and above the misleading concept of race, nowadays superseded, and even accepting the appearance of the Mediterranean type in a large part of Euskal Herria - in any case always far from the Pyrenees -, the Basque type clearly s many more unique features than in morphological osteology in the more genetic and biochemical characters, which are the oldest and most significant. Bearing in mind the socio-cultural structure of the Basque people and the behavioural sequences that, as a human group, they have engraved in the ethogrammes of this territory throughout history, it is not at all utopian to think that they will adapt to any type of environment that the future may bring.
