Contemporary Navarrese sculptor and painter, born in Pamplona in 1964.
He studied drawing at the School of Arts and Crafts in his hometown, graduating in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country in 1990. He completed his training with several woodcut courses at the International Center for Contemporary Printing in Betanzos, in Bilbao Arte with Gil Shacha and with Miguel Villari in Almería.
In 1987, he won first prize for painting at the Navarre Plastic Arts Competition; in 1988, first prize in the sculpture category of the same competition. In 1993, he won first prize for sculpture at the Pamplona Young Artists Competition and, in 1999, first prize for Caja de España Sculpture. In 2007, he won the competition organized by Public Works of Navarre to create a public sculpture at the Ezkaba Roundabout in Burlada.
Among his solo exhibitions, we highlight the installation created at the Gustavo de Maeztu Museum in 1996. He also presented the exhibition "Journey to Knowledge" at the Public University of Navarra (2001). That same year, he exhibited "Portraits of Artists" in the Mixed Gallery of the Pamplona Citadel. In 2002, he exhibited "Whenever There Is Joy" at the Museum of Navarra, and in 2007, he exhibited "The Sweet Side of Life" at the San Sebastián Arteko gallery.
In 2009 he exhibited at the Gayarre Theatre in Pamplona and, in 2011, he ed his vision of the simple life through eleven works in the exhibition 'Domestic Life' which he presented in the open-air sculpture park Arenatzarte, in Ges.
Throughout his career, he has participated in more than 50 group exhibitions. His work can also be found in the Caja Navarra Collection, the Caja España Collection, the CIEC Foundation Collection, the Museum of Navarra, Pamplona City Council, and Ges.
In April 2012, the Government of Navarre, through the INAAC Foundation, awarded financial support to Julia Juniz for the production of the medium-length film 'The Language of Objects', a documentary to visually present the artistic work of Mar a José Recalde.
