Navarrese comedian, known as "CTxomin del Regato."
Born in Sesma in 1918 , he felt a deep calling for the stage from a very young age. At the age of twelve, he gave his first official performance at the Buenos Aires Theatre in Bilbao .
Throughout his career, he performed as a gallant comedian in the Nini Montian and Rafael Barden Company, sharing the stage with renowned actors such as Armando Calvo and Vicente Soler . He created the clown act "Hermanos Bilbao" , with which he toured the circuses of every circus in Spain .
Later, together with his sons Eugenio and Jesús Alberto , he founded the "Hermanos Vizcaya" clown attraction, considered at the time to be the youngest in Spain . Sadly, a tragic mountain accident took the life of clown Eugenio and led to the dissolution of the act at the height of its success.
Txomin del Regato was always distinguished by his originality : almost all of his comic interventions and monologues were his own . He achieved numerous triumphs on different radio stations, especially on Radio Bilbao , where for four years , at midnight , he improvised humorous commentaries on the main events of the day - political, sporting, etc. - that had occurred up to just ten minutes before the broadcast .
This radio personality was born from Martínez Artola's deep love for all things Basque and the encouragement he received from the popular Bilbao broadcaster Santiago Marcilla . His success was and continues to be overwhelming , as he helped to dismantle the stereotype of the "clumsy villager" , replacing it with a cheerful, astute, and talkative figure.
He was an exclusive artist for Hispavox from 1962 to 1970 , during which time he recorded 16 45 rpm EPs.
