Topónimo navarro. García Garceiz, abad de Irache, hizo en diciembre de 1267 donación a Garci Gominguiz de la heredad de Zumelz para que la tuviera como collazo, pagando cada año siete sueldos de sanchetes. (AGN, Doc, Ir. 258).
