Villa separada del reino de Navarra, 1º partido de la merindad de Pamplona. Tenía el privilegio de asiento y voto en Cortes. La gobernaban 2 cofradías de sacerdotes y legos, que mantenían alcalde y cárcel para ejercicio de toda jurisdicción.
