Municipio burgalés del partido judicial de Villarcayo. Perteneció con Miranda de Ebro,Pancorbo y Saja a las Hermandades alavesas. Así consta como parte de la de Miranda en las Juntas de Rivabellosa de 1463. En 1476 se habían segregado de Araba, pasando a Castilla.
