Pueblo del antiguo alfoz de Burgos. En un diploma del Becerro Gótico de Cardeña, sin fecha pero anterior al año 1085, aparece una "villa que nuncupant Bascones" y en otro documento del siglo XVI se cita a "San Medel que por otro nombre se llama Villabáscones".
