Se conoce con el nombre la Sierra de la Magdalena o Montes de la Peña a las alturas que dominan por el sur la carretera que enlaza Balmaseda (Bizk.) con el valle de Mena. El monte de Peña Mayor tiene 1.256 m. de altitud. Es la cima más alta de la sierra.
