Fue creado el título el 10 de noviembre de 1539 a favor de D. Pedro Enríquez de Navarra de la Cueva, Vizconde de Muruzábal de Andión, Mariscal del Reino de Navarra. Posee el título en 1962 la Duquesa de Villahermosa.
