Mariscal de Campo y General de los Ejércitos reales de origen vasco. Asumió violentamente la dirección del gobierno de la provincia de Castilla de Oro y Tierra Firme, separando del poder al presidente de la Real Audiencia. Permaneció al frente del cargo hasta 1718.
