Hijo de Lope López de Haro, denominado El Chico. En abril de 1298 acompañó a Juan Núñez de Lara cuando éste dejó el reino de Castilla y pasó a Aragón, jurando fidelidad al rey de Aragón Jaime y pactando proseguir con la voz de Alfonso de la Cerda contra D. Fernando.
