Título nobiliario con dignidad de Grandeza de España concedido el 22 de julio de 1475 a D. Diego Hurtado de Mendoza y Figueroa. En 1951 pasa a ostentarlo D. Iñigo de Arteaga y Falguera, uno de los mayores propietarios agrarios de España (17.171 Ha.).
