Establecido el 10 de julio de 1803 con Grandeza de España, y concedido como título pontificio por S. S. León XIII en 1902 a D. Francisco Chávarri y Romero. En 1963 pasa a ostentarlo D. Mauricio Álvarez Bohoruques y Silva.
