Apellido vasco originario según parece de Commingues que se habría instalado en Sara (Laburdi) a principios del siglo XVIII. De Sara se diseminó por Laburdi. Ya Martín Dop era cura de Ustaritz en 1746. Había nacido en Sara. De Ustaritz pasó a Notre-Dame de Bayona.
