Ophthalmologist born in Vitoria on 10 December 1959.
He is a member of GAME (Spanish High Mountain Group) and technical director of the Basque-Navarre Mountain Federation. He was head and doctor of the Tximist expeditions to Everest in 1974 and 1980. The latter expedition, which was filmed by Lorente Zugaza, is remembered as the first time the ikurriña flag flew on the summit of Everest.
In 1995, he obtained administrative and health authorisation from the Basque Government's Department of Health to open an ophthalmology clinic on Calle Postas in the capital of Álava.
He is the author of ‘Retinopathy haemorrhagic of altitude’, in VI Mountain Medicine Conference (Vitoria: Basque Government Publications, 1984).
