Aizpiri Mujica, Patxi

Basque pianist born in San Sebastián in 1969.

He studied piano at the Conservatory of his hometown under Blanca Burgaleta, where he was awarded the First Prize at the End of Studies and the First Prize in Chamber Music. Later, funded by the Diputación de Gipuzkoa and the Basque Government, he pursued advanced studies at the International Piano School "Ciem Mozart" in Lausanne (Switzerland) under Maestro Fausto Zadra, and in Oviedo with pianist Tsiala Kvernadze.

He is pianist and deputy director of the Orfeón Donostiarra, professor at the Higher Conservatory of Music of the Basque Country, director of the Aita Garayoa Choir and the San Ignacio Choir of San Sebastián, and frequently collaborates with the Euskadi Symphony Orchestra.

Patxi Aizpiri combines his work as a piano soloist with chamber music. He has been invited to numerous editions of the San Sebastián Musical Fortnight and has performed as a soloist with the Castilla y León Symphony Orchestra and the Young Orchestra of Euskalherria (EGO).

He has also worked with some of the most prestigious conductors of the 20th century, including Esa-Pekka Salonen, Michel Tilson-Thomas, Zubin Mehta, Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti, Jesús López Cobos, Lorin Maazel, and Miguel Ángel Gómez Martínez.

Since February 2005, he has served as director of the Oviedo Opera Choir.
