Reciben este nombre ciertas montañas de Santiago de Chile y una angostura de los Andes formada en el paso del río Huallaga en Perú. Su nombre proviene de hechos realizados por el famoso Lope de Aguirre. También se les denomina Salto de Aguirre y Pongos de Aguirre.
