Akigarria. Pelota player. Born in Altzaga, the frontons of Azpeitia and Tolosa were the scene of his early performances. His father, a well-to-do farmer, wished him to pursue a career in the Church; however, this did not appeal to the young man, who moved to Tolosa to work as an assistant in a butcher’s shop. He ed no inclination for this occupation either and devoted himself entirely to pelota, eventually moving to Madrid. He possessed a powerful backhand and was very daring in his attacking play, as well as great physical strength, which, due to its similarity to that of Pedrós, earned him the nickname “the Little Pedrós”.
