Fundada en Vitoria por iniciativa de Don Fermín Herrán en 1873, domiciliada en la calle de la Herrería n.º 73 por lo que se le conocía popularmente con el nombre de "Tertulia literaria del 73", ya que coincidía el número de la calle con el año de su fundación.
