Lafourcade, Maité

History of Law.

Ma t Lafourcade is Professor Emeritus at the University of Pau and the Pays de l'Adour, teaching at the multidisciplinary Faculty of Bayonne-Anglet-Biarritz since its creation, and director of the Research Center in Basque Studies at that University.

Born in Bayonne in 1934 and died on March 16, 2015. Graduated in Law from the University of Bordeaux, holder of diplomas in Advanced Studies in Private Law and History of Law from the University of Paris, and a doctoral thesis on Les contrats de mariage en Labourd sous le r gne de Louis XVI. Etude juridique et sociologique (Marriage contracts in Lapurdi under the reign of Louis XVI. Legal and sociological study) (3 volumes) published by the University of the Basque Country, when Professor Gregorio Monr al Zia was rector of this University.

She joined the University of Pau in 1968 as an assistant, then as a lecturer, and finally as a Professor of Legal History at the Faculty of Bayonne. There, in 1992, she created a Research Center for Basque Studies and actively collaborated with the Law section of Eusko-Ikaskuntza , including the publication of four works: La pratique actuelle du droit coutumier au Pays basque (The Current Practice of Customary Law in the Basque Country), La fronti re franco-espagnole, lieu de conflits inter tatiques et de collaboration interr gionale (The Franco-Spanish Border, a Site of Interstate Conflicts and Interregional Collaboration), 1492-1992. L'exode des Juifs d'Espagne vers Bayonne. From the banks of the Ebro and the Tagus to Bayonne (1492-1992. The exodus of the Jews from Spain to Bayonne. She is the author of 61 articles, 55 of which deal with the Basque Country (Iparralde), and 84 lectures. She still teaches Basque law in a public course of 26 hours per year, to first-year students of Basque Studies in Bayonne, where an audience of 10 to 15 people annually attend, in addition to the students.

She is an official of the Academic Palmas, holder of the Gold Cross of Merit and French dedication, of the Red Cross of Arts, Sciences and Letters, General Secretary of the Association for the Protection of Children of the Basque Country, honorary member of the Royal Basque Society of Friends of the Country, and Vice-President of Eusko-Ikaskuntza Iparralde since its creation, which she has contributed to with President Gregorio Monreal during the time when he presided over Eusko-Ikaskuntza.
