Esta Sociedad fue fundada en enero de 1959 con el título «Amigos del País de Sangüesa y su Merindad» con una finalidad de fomento económico y cultural. Su Estatuto fue aprobado por el Gobernador Civil de Navarra el día 15 de enero de 1959.
