The dynamics of agricultural activities in the Basque Country have different rhythms and differences for the Basque Autonomous Community, Navarre and the north of the Basque Country. The industrialisation of agriculture, livestock and forestry, although predominant, has its limits in the face of the demand for sustainable development that is becoming more and more present in developed Western societies. And this problem is not foreign to the Basque Country. Another worrying aspect is the deficit in agricultural trade, both with the rest of Spain and abroad. The demands of the population for the quality of our food encourages the spread of "label" as well as organic agriculture.
We cannot forget the prices of agricultural products, which are always low for farmers, as well as the ageing process of the sector and the living conditions therein.
Faced with these problems and challenges, the actions of the various administrations must be coordinated and, together with farmers, enable sustainable development, moving towards food sovereignty consistent with more endogenous approaches to the economy.
