He began his singing studies with Professor Javier Solaun and at the age of twenty-five he moved to the Bordeaux Conservatory to continue his training with Monique Pondeau and André Dran where he obtained the gold medal in singing and performing arts. She later perfected her skills with Gino Bechi and Ettore Campogallione. In 1982 she was awarded the Plácido Domingo prize at the "Francisco Viñas" International Competition.

Her first appearance in the opera season of the Asociación Bilbaina de Amigos de la Ópera (ABAO) took place in 1983 performing Puccini's Manon Lescaut with the soprano Raina Rabaivonska. Later he sang in La Coruña, Málaga and Córdoba. In 1986 he was invited to sing Ravel's L'heure espagnole and Puccini's youth opera La Villi at the Teatro San Carlos in Lisbon. His Italian debut took place in Treviso a year later as Count Luna in Il trovatore. That same year he sang the King in a production of The Favourite which marked Luciano Pavarotti's debut as stage director at La Fenice in Venice. Also in Venice he sang Verdi's Luisa Miller and Don Pasquale and Il barbieri di Siviglia elsewhere in Italy. In 1992 she made her debut at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid with La favorita with Alfredo Kraus and Shirley Verrett. She also sang with extraordinary success Mendi Mendiyan by Usandizaga, Zigor by Escudero and Mirentxu and El caserío by Guridi.
